She seemed quite knowledgeable and easy to deal with at first, but then became very difficult to get in touch with, would not return calls for weeks in spite of many attempts on our behalf to speak with her, advised us to do most of the negotiating (regarding the sale of a business) on our own with little or no feedback from her, and then after a couple of months informed us that she was 'too busy' with other matters and that we should find a new lawyer. It was quite upsetting, as the time we were waiting to hear feedback/legal advice from her ended up costing us a lot of extra money and stress that was really quite unnecessary. It would have been more acceptable and professional on her part if she had informed us much earlier that she did not wish to continue with our case. In MY opinion, regardless of her rates, Patricia is extremely aggressive in a reasonable,respecatble way. She is an excellent woman to work with. She is forward, a lawyer who is not afraid to speak her mind.We need lawyers like HER! She is definetely for children, if she wasn't, what kind of human would she be? I have a child myself and she worked in the best interest of the child. That's the way it should be. SHe is not vendictive as most are, she is for the child all the way, and will settle the best way possible to save time and costs, That is what i like! She tells it like it is to your face, client or not. If u get offended, that's your issue, but i have no problem with her saying it like it is. Clients out there are dog eat dog and Patricia made me see, that vengeance is not successful, putting your child and all the best interest for that child is priority. The rest is in God's hands. Her knowledge seems fairly good, not outstanding, but good enough to practice. Her real shortcoming is in communication and the tenacity that comes with caring about your clients plight. She will rarely return calls and shows a general dispassion for whatever plight you may be talking about. I know of two people other than myself who both had terrible experiences with her in the office and one who's divorce became the kind of farce that you see in comedies. If it wasn't so sad it would be funny how poorly his case was handled. I absolutely would never recommend her for an important case. Caution !!! In my experience this Lawyer is very very shifty. Specializes in "helping" elderly and vulnerable clients by setting up his own family members to act as their Power of Attorney or Trustee. Surprisingly this is perfectly legal in Canada. I feel that he didn't represent my interests well, nor did he really put much effort into my divorce settlement. He was poor at returning phone calls (To this day I still have an outstanding phone call that I expect from him.) I found him to be disingenuous and not really interested in protecting my interests, just prolonging the settlement discussions so that he could bill me more hours. I wrote my separation agreement myself because he couldn't get to a successful resolution with my ex-wife's lawyer. I would not recommend him whatsoever. Back in the days he was "the" criminal lawyer, so that's way several people i know hired him. Unfortunately he didn't win any of their cases and his worked seemed sort of slacked. He doesn't communicate every well and seems to make promises that he can't uphold. For someone with such a reputation we were quite disappointed with the results and expected more from him. I have called at least 30 times. He is absolutely unprofessional. His office is disgusting and looks like a tornado blew through. He will leave legal documents of other cases infront of you and you can read them all since they are all over the place. There is no order there at all.I do not recommend this clown at all! He's a sellout. I was never afforded a bail hearing. And in 7 1/2 months I only saw him approx. 8 times. Most of my telephone calls got no answer. Even a worker at the Jail called and pretended to need lawyer. This got his secretary, while a few minutes before I only got the machine. They played this denial game for months. I would feel more safe doing a murder defence on my own than asking Denis Michel for a Bail Hearing. The day of the sellout plea bargain he tells me that his very own father was the judge at my last hearing. A little conflicting if you ask me. This is my personal beliefs. She made statements on sworn affidavits that she knew to be untrue because she had written documentation otherwise...and allowed my ex- to submit documents with sworn testimony that she knew was false because she had written documentation to the contrary. She made submissions to court (which have cost me considerable money) on behalf of my ex- that directly misrepresented issues we had reached full agreement on. So, in both cases, I believe that Joyce Elder lied in a sworn affidavit. I hope she gets disbarred. She also constantly encouraged my ex- to ask for things that the law CLEARLY indicated were not valid....thus costing my ex- considerable legal expenses as she pursued things with no hope of success. Ed handled a property purchase for me. He appeared to be very friendly in the initial consultation and offered to let me phone him at home if I have any questions at all. But that friendliness soon evaporated after we firmed up for his service. In the process of the property transaction, I had a few questions, and phoned him at the office. Out of the three times I phoned, I got to talked to him one time, the other two times I got to talk with his assistant. I'm very sensitive about phoning people at home about business, but since Ed offered to call him at home if I have any questions, I phoned one Saturday.
